2015 Driving Tour

Saturday,  May 16th  Driving Tour (about 100 miles)

Leave from Living History Farms about 10:30 AM
Travel west on HWY 6 to Adel
From Adel take old HWY 6 west to Redfield and then south to Dexter.
At Dexter we’ll stop at one of the finest chocolate shops in Cental Iowa, Drews Chocolates.
Consider bringing a small cooler to carry any chocolate purchases if it’s a warm day.
Then we will proceed west on the White Pole Road through Stuart and then to Menlo.
We’ll eat lunch at the Menlo Cafe – known statewide for their tenderloin sandwiches, hot beef sandwiches, and homemade pies.
From the Menlo Cafe, we will proceed west to HWY 25 and then a mile south to the Freedom Rock.  The Freedom Rock is repainted each May on time for Memorial Day.  If we’re lucky, Ray “Bubba” Sorenson will be there that day repainting the 60 ton rock.
From the Freedom Rock, we will travel south on HWY 25 to Greenfield.
At Greenfield we’ll travel east on HWY 92 back to Winterset and HWY 69.
We’ll take HWY 69 north for two miles until we reach the “stair-step road” to Cumming.
At Cumming, we’ll stop at the Cumming Tap to quench our thirsts before disbanding and going our separate ways.
